History of the Association of Schools

When the Baptist churches in Togo decided to start Christian Schools they asked ABWE missionary Beatrice Ward to help. Along with a team of Togolese and American teachers, Bea worked tirelessly training teachers and writing curriculum. Under her guidance, the Teacher Training School started training 1st grade teachers in 2005. Each year the following grade’s teachers were trained as the schools added one grade per year to their enrollment.

Kwami Koudjodji and Roger Fetou worked closely with Bea Ward during the first years and their capability and responsibilities grew as the years passed. When the schools formed the Association of Schools in the Light, Kwami was appointed as President of ASEL and Roger, the secretary. They’re both invaluable to the Christian School ministry as they visit schools, lead training seminars, and encourage teachers to be the best they can for the good of the schools and the glory of God.
